Like the Precursor + Castles & Coffee update, this will be a “2 in 1” update. The next update for Xbox One will contain both the Silent Running and Voice of the Deep update. What is for sure is that we are working hard, and will release an update ASAP. There is too much uncertainty to be able to predict a timeframe. In game development, some things that you think will be quick take weeks, and some things you think will be slow take hours. Those benefits will also flow through to the Xbox One version of the game once we get updates back in sync between Xbox and Steam. We are doing a great deal of work on performance more broadly, the benefits of which we hope will start to show up in the Steam version of Subnautica over the coming months. Performance on Xbox One is already well below par, and we would consider it utterly unacceptable to release an update that reduces it further. This surgery has resulted in a regression (a step backwards) in performance on Xbox One. Squashing The Bug required deep and invasive surgery in Subnautica’s rendering system (the bits of the game that produce graphics). This is a normal process and nothing to worry about too much. Now that we have the game running again, we need to address those issues. Silent Running and Voice of the Deep each introduced some issues that appear only on Xbox One. You should do this before you open your save file to play. Just head to ‘Properties,’ then ‘Betas,’ and choose ‘legacy’ from the drop down. If you’re not quite ready to move to the new update, because you’re using mods on your save file or otherwise, you can also roll back to the ‘legacy’ beta on Steam to continue playing. On top of these changes, we’ve also refactored and optimized our save system, which means it’s now even faster and more reliable to save and retrieve your save. Subnautica 2.0 Update Adds Accessibility Options & Some Below Zero Content. Now you can make your bases even more epic than before! We’ve also added some base pieces to Subnautica that were previously only available in Below Zero, specifically the Large Room, Glass Dome, and surface hatches. By doing this, we’ve been able to implement several quality of life features, fix many outstanding bugs, and introduce some performance improvements that were already available in Below Zero. Our goal was always to bring both Subnautica and Below Zero onto unified versions of Unity, and with today’s update, that goal has been achieved. As you might have seen in some of our previous blog posts, a lot of time has been spent addressing a ton of tech debt and bringing across some improved code from Below Zero.
